Joan has been a member of St. George’s Calgary for 37 years and was ordained as a Deacon in the Diocese of Calgary in September 2020 and ordained to the Sacred Order of Priests September 2021. Joan has a BA from the University of Toronto where she took courses in religious studies, church music, Greek and Latin literature in translation, and philosophy and ethics. A lifelong learner, Joan obtained her Grade 9 - Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in 2012 after seven years of study. She received her diploma in Education for Ministry (EFM) from the University of the South, School of Theology (Sewanee, Tennessee) in June 2020.
Joan has been one of the music worship leaders at St. George’s since she first became a member of the parish and has been active in numerous ministries at St. George’s over the years. She has provided lay leadership for previous tenures as a Warden and Parish Council member, and Joan helped to develop a discipleship program for the parish.
Joan worked in the corporate and not-for-profit sectors in the roles of Executive Assistant and Fund Developer for over twenty years before retiring in 2019 to pursue her vocation in ministry. She and her husband David are happy to be near their two daughters and two grand-daughters who also live in Calgary.
