How did you celebrate Labour Day yesterday? Maybe you hastily put coverings over vegetables and flowers as the snow fell, or maybe you complimented yourself that you had packed up the camping gear early and were ready to start the drive home as the rain began, or maybe you were called into work on this statutory holiday... This holiday, which came into being in Canada by an Act of Parliament on 23 July 1894, is now 126 years old.

During this pandemic when so many have become unemployed, the Labour Day Holiday reminds us of how important employment is for our spiritual, mental, social, and economic well-being. Let us pray for those who are seeking employment.

Heavenly Father, we remember before you those who suffer want and anxiety from lack of work. Guide the people of this land so to use their wealth and resources that everyone may find suitable and fulfilling employment and receive just payment for their labour; through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
