Tomorrow is a significant day in our Church Calendar. On September 18 we remember with thanksgiving all Christ’s faithful servants who over the years have laid the foundation of the Anglican Church of Canada. Why September 18? Because on this date in 1893 the first General Synod of the Church of England in the Dominion of Canada concluded its deliberations, marking the beginning of our autonomous national Church within the worldwide Anglican Communion.

This is a day on which dioceses and parishes and missions of the ACC are invited to remember laity and clergy who helped to establish these local communities of faith. Each congregation will have stories to share about those followers of Jesus Christ who participated in nurturing the local church through their faithfulness and Godly wisdom. Perhaps it is the time to dust off that old parish history and find fresh encouragement for the journey ahead as we give thanks for God’s love and faithfulness in the lives of those who have gone before us.
