Yesterday, October 11, was Thanksgiving Day. Being thank-filled, having an attitude of gratitude, is a characteristic that each of us should covet. Yes, I know the 10th Commandment says, “you shall not covet.....anything that belongs to your neighbour.” However we are also told to emulate “whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just....and to keep on doing the things... learned....and seen in...” the lives of the Apostles...” and “....making our requests known to God in prayer with thanksgiving...”. So, the theme for One Moment Please this week is to remember to start “every day with a grateful prayer and a thankful heart.” (Song: Thankful Heart, sung by Scrooge in Muppet Christmas Carol.)

Our friend, Gayla, sent Pauline and me a Thanksgiving Card which reminded us of five reasons we should be thankful. In researching the Card’s Poem I could not find the author’s name but it did appear on the posters-for-good.tumblr.com website on 23 October 2010.

The first reminder is “if you have food in your fridge, clothes on your back, a roof over your head and a place to sleep; you are richer than 75% of the world.” Maybe before getting up we could pause and say a grateful prayer to God who loves us.

Bible Reading: Exodus 20:17; Philippians 4: 4-9.
